Digital Preservation Policy
All files have been committed to Portico for long-term preservation. When particular criteria or "trigger events" occur that cause journal titles to no longer be available from the publisher or any other source, Portico grants access to its library participants:
-
when a publishing house closes and books can no longer be obtained through any other means.
-
when one publisher stops releasing a book and doesn't see another publisher or organization offer it.
-
when back issues that are unavailable elsewhere are taken out of a publisher's catalog.
-
After an extended period of catastrophic failure on the part of the publisher's distribution platform
When e-journal titles have "triggered," they are available to all participants in the Portico E-Journal Preservation Service, regardless of whether the participating institution has previously licensed the content. Also, all versions of the papers (preprints, postprints and published versions) are stored in the publishing house's archive.
